The Book of Kells

Overview

0h 40min
No visit to Dublin would be complete without viewing the Book of Kells and Old Library situated in the heart of the city at Trinity College. Step into another world of cobbled stones and 18th century buildings, Marvel at the lavishly illustrated 9th century manuscript – the Book of Kells – a copy of the four gospels of the life of Jesus Christ. Walk through the 18th century Long Room – the main chamber of the Old Library – reputed to be one of the longest single library chambers in the world – and filled with 200,000 of the Library’s oldest books. Other treasures to look out for are the 15th century Brian Boru harp – the symbol of the nation – and one of the few surviving copies of the 1916 Proclamation. Finish off your visit in the Gift Shop filled with Irish designed souvenirs related to the Book of Kells, the Library and Trinity College.
