Overview

As we are all aware the West of Ireland is the crowning glory of the landscape and scenery of Ireland. To visit the West and to omit the Burren is to miss the jewel in that crown. The Burren is a unique region in Europe and our Centre is the only Interpretative Centre devoted to the appreciation and understanding of this region. In Kilfenora, we have it all…. we have the Pope as our Bishop, a 10th. Century Cathedral with 12th Century high crosses, the most famous ceili band in Ireland, the Burren interpretative Centre, rare Ring Forts, Holywells, Castles, bikes, craftwork, choice accommodation, good food, friendly people, dancing, fun and music nightly. All you have to do is visit us and we will share it all with you. The Burren is best encountered for the first time through the Burren Centre at Kilfenora. The Burren Centre is not designed as a lazy man’s experience of the Burren but as a logical and comprehensive introduction to its bewildering complexity of treasurers. It makes use of landscape models and special lighting and visual techniques to create a real awareness of the environment. The Burren Centre gives the visitor an introduction to the visual delights and ancient mysteries which wait to be discovered in this unspoiled corner of Ireland. The Centre is not just the gateway to the Burren - it is fast becoming a unique experience in culture, music, food, and shopping as well as an information point for further exploration. For the coming year, we offer our longstanding popular attractions of film and exhibition 'A Walk-Through Time’, Kilfenora Ceili Band Parlour, Tearooms and Craft Shop.
