As Ireland’s national theatre, it is the Abbey Theatre’s ambition to enrich the cultural lives of everyone with a curiosity for and interest in Irish theatre, stories, artists and culture. Ever wondered exactly what is involved in creating a theatre production? Or what happens behind-the-scenes while you are watching a performance? This is your chance to step on stage and see your national theatre in a new light. Explore the building, the artwork, and the current shows, as our guides pull back the curtain to bring the history and the heart of the Abbey to life. Our tours are scheduled to match the performance dates of productions so our tour changes all the time. Tours last for approximately 60-75 minutes and start from the Abbey foyer.

Sit in the centre of the Abbey auditorium, taking in the beautiful space and technical features. And then step onto the Abbey Theatre stage to see things from the actors point-of-view. On stage, discover the stories behind the design, costumes and props for the current production - up close and in detail.
